Welcome to NC Overland

Welcome to NC Overland, your gateway to adventure here in North Carolina. We are a new, veteran and first responder owned company based out of Goldsboro, that is bringing a new outlook to overlanding our great state. Thank you for joining us on this fun ride of adventure into the mountains, the beaches and everywhere in between. We wanted to give you a peak into the background of our little world here at NCO by sharing a little bit about us as a company and as overlanders.

NC Overland was brought to light by the creation of a Facebook group back in 2016 for us to share with the world some of our projects and adventures that we took and has turned into a huge following with over 13,000 members. People from across the state and beyond share modifications, trips, epic photos and most anything else one could imagine from off-roading and 4x4 vehicle-based camping.  We are beyond grateful with how things have come about with that group that we have decided to grow it into something more. We will be creating expert content for the beginner and experienced overlander alike, while also bringing gear reviews, trips, recipes, and much more. We want the NC Overland brand to really enrich the spirit that the people of our state have of adventure and travel.

NC Overland was founded by two friends who had a love for the outdoors and vehicles alike. We started going camping together at a Land Rover rally in the Uwharrie National Forest. Since then, we have been learning and gaining experience through our travels as well as we have been outfitting trucks…not just Rovers and using them to take us to different parts of the state and beyond for adventure-based travel. We hope to start attending some of the events around the state as work and family allow us so that we can really get to know more of the overlanding community of North Carolina.

Nathan

I am also the Co-Owner NC Overland, and the original creator of the Facebook page where we got our start. which has since evolved into a thriving business.

My journey with NC Overland began when I recognized the absence of a platform to connect with like minded people in North Carolina who shared my passion for adventure. At that time, the concept of such a community was foreign to me. Soon after its creation, my military service took me abroad for an extended period. During my absence, I entrusted Jonathan with administrative responsibilities to keep the community alive.

Upon returning to the States, I was pleasantly surprised to witness the exponential growth and popularity that NC Overland had achieved. The scale it had reached exceeded my wildest expectations. I must express my gratitude for the genuine camaraderie and goodwill fostered within the group, a refreshing departure from the often less friendly tone of other Facebook communities. Members here offer invaluable assistance and advice to one another.

My current affinity for Overlanding derives from a fusion of my love for fly fishing, an unquenchable thirst for adventure, and the use of Overlanding as a means to extend and enhance these experiences. I constantly seek new projects to engage my mind, often leaning towards Overlanding-related endeavors. Currently, I find myself in a race against time to get our AWD Astro Van, affectionately named the "Tangerine Dream," roadworthy before the leaves change, allowing us to embark on fall camping expeditions.

For me, Overlanding represents freedom in its purest form, a remedy to the constraints imposed by external forces over the past decade. Be it on my motorcycle, in my kayak, or even when I happen to own a boat, I always sense that I can venture anywhere and take on any challenge. However, the pinnacle of my freedom and happiness occurs when I find myself in remote, signal-free locations, often by a tranquil river, indulging in fly fishing. Sometimes, it's during hikes or camping excursions with my little family, which includes my wife and our two dogs, preferably amidst breathtaking scenery.

One of my primary goals here is to empower fellow adventurers to take control of their journeys and discover their own unique sense of freedom.

I am the Co-owner of NC Overland with Nathan. I am a North Carolina native and grew up in the eastern part of the state. I have an amazing Dad who passed the love of being outside to me, so I grew up camping, fishing and anything else outside when I wasn’t playing sports.  At the age of 17, I got an old 96 Land Rover Discovery, and the rest was history for me. I have since owned 5 more Rovers and am always looking for the next project.

Uwharrie was my first real taste at official trails other than old fields and farm roads. It was there that I have met some of my best lifelong friends that I still camp and wheel with to this day. In my day job, I am a firefighter/EMT. I love helping and serving my community when they call. The skills that I have learned from my career field are also useful when we are off the grid, so I hope in later articles that I can help you expand your knowledge and skills to help you wheel safer and smarter.

This was just a peak of who we are, and I truly hope we get to meet some of you out there on the trails or at the campsite! Again, we want to thank you for checking us out and adventuring in North Carolina and beyond. We look forward to helping you get out there!
